3  Uninstall the site

!

If a site is no longer to be used for Smallsite Design, it can be uninstalled, freeing up the site for another use.

A new domain URL can be specified so that all future accesses to the site are redirected to the same pages. If doing this, the site should be left as is for a few months so that visitors and search engine bots will still find the content. Search engines will eventually transfer any site ranking to the new site.

Steps

Indicates the step has learning notes. Click its checkbox to show them.

The role to perform this procedure is: Master manager.

To remove all content of a site:1Go to the Site page

by clicking on the Site jump in the final list item of the Access section of the Work list page.

The page is displayed with Details and Actions sections like:

2Initiate the action

by clicking on the Uninstall site option.

A warning is displayed:

3Optionally, specify a URL to redirect to

by typing the target URL into the New domain URL.

Any text after the domain will be removed before being used as the target URL.

If some parts of the URL are Unicode, pasting in a URL from a browser address bar will likely result in those parts starting with xn-- text. Replace those parts with plain Unicode text, especially if wanting to edit them.

With the New domain URL field filled out:

4Confirm the transferby:

  4. d.Redirections are handled by a customised .htaccess file in the site's root folder.
